instrumental music
At Red Cliffs Secondary College, the Instrumental Music Program offers aspiring musicians the opportunity to learn an instrument of their choice. Specially tailored lessons give each student the individual attention they need to develop and hone their talents. We are proud of both the culture and high standard of Instrumental Music in our college.
WHAT IS THE INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC PROGRAM?
The Instrumental Music Program is an extracurricular program separate from general classroom Music where students can learn an instrument or undertake singing lessons. The main difference between general classroom Music and the Instrumental Music Program is the individual attention the student receives. Students need concentrated study in the form of private lessons to achieve true proficiency leading to mastery, particularly at VCE level. Under our Instrumental Music Program, we have the privilege to offer your child this deeper level of instruction.
WHAT IS THE ROLE OF AN INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC TEACHER?
The college has engaged highly experienced and well-known Instrumental Music and Voice teachers from the Sunraysia district. These teachers will work with individual students in their chosen instrument and assist in refining instrument-specific technical and performance skills.
WHEN DO INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC LESSONS OCCUR?
Students will attend a weekly one hour lesson during the school day. These sessions are scheduled on a rotation, ensuring students are not absent from the same class each week.
WHAT IS THE COST OF INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC LESSONS?
Students are required to pay for their instrument hire (if applicable) and Instrumental Music lessons as arranged with the specific instructor.
WHO WOULD BENEFIT FROM INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC LESSONS?
Anyone who wishes to learn an instrument, from beginners to those who have prior knowledge, will benefit from Instrumental Music lessons. We are very fortunate to have some of the best music teachers in the district at Red Cliffs Secondary College and welcome any student to participate in the program.
WHAT OPPORTUNITIES COULD ARISE FROM ENROLLING IN THIS PROGRAM?
Some students may wish to learn an instrument solely for their own pleasure, whilst others may want to share their passion through performance. Opportunities to perform include college assemblies, lunchtime concerts, the College Production, the Mildura Eisteddfod, and various community events.
WHAT IF MY CHILD ALREADY RECEIVES MUSIC LESSONS (INSTRUMENTAL OR VOICE) OUTSIDE OF THE COLLEGE?
Your child can continue to receive music lessons from an external provider outside of school hours. This does not prevent them from participating in the Instrumental Music Program. If an individual family’s time and resources permit, you may decide that your young musician would benefit from the college’s Instrumental Music Program as well as external lessons.
HOW DO I ENROL MY CHILD?
Parents are required to complete the attached booking form which is to be returned to the college. You will then be contacted by the Instrumental Music Coordinator – Mr Donald Mayne, who will provide you with any further information, including timetables and required materials. Please note, students can enrol in the Instrumental Music Program at any time throughout the school year. However, they are not guaranteed an immediate position since timetables are arranged at the beginning of each term.
